I bought Italy with an odd of 9, shortly it qualifies to the second stage. Today, its facing either France or Portugal in the the Final in Berlin.
Italy has always been my favorite team. I fancy its defensive, careful, and swift counter attacks. Italy is never in a hurry to win, it seats contented with patience, waiting for openings in its opponent, and attack shiftly with haste.
Something about Italian football is the depth and organization in defense. On its off days, it may not score (or not much), as in the match against USA (its a rare own goal). Most people would look highly to a team whose display strong attacking players, such as Brazil. I beg to differ and feels that strength of a team is built from its defense. You can buy a good striker from Brazil and he can score from day one, but a four or six men defense line cannot hold if any one of them does not gel. With Italy's coherent defence force and agile tackling from the likes of Carnavaro, Nesta, and Gattuso, Italy is rock solid in front of any team.
The more worrisome compartment would be the attacking lineup. With Toni not scoring as well as his time in Sirre A, it may worry its supporters a bit. But with the Toni scoring two recently, and another two magnificient goals from Del Piero and Grosso, Italy may well have all the factors to go all the way.
